Within Judaism and Christianity there's this emphasis on the other the outsider because they are the ones who question our way of thinking about the world. God is not that which legitimizes us but breaks open our understandings. Problematizes the simple ways we look at the world. The one that we think is evil or bad or we need to get rid of is actually the person who can be good news to us.
