Flannery O'Connor's Middle Class Racism
Flannery O'Connor is writing during the civil rights era. What I suggest is that O'Connor shows us how middle class racism was taking shape socially and psychologically in this period by sort of peeling back the psyche, the consciousness of some of her middle class characters. Showing us the complexity and maybe the truth that the truth is not in the stereotype of the stereotypes. There's a lot more gray area there and the lines are a lot blurrier.
