Lucy's parents moved from South Africa to New Zealand when she was eight years old. Her dad worked in the merchant navy on cargo ships and he went all around the world doing radio work. He left his well paid job as an electrician to get a poorly paid job fixing TVs for customers while her mum was a stay at home parent.
