Until the last 20 or 30 years, Utah was the only state in the union where death by firing squad was permissible for those on death row. The understanding there was that if you've done something terrible, firing squad is, you know, you'll shed your blood with a Brigham Young Todd and then this is your act of repentance - even if it's not voluntary. So yeah, that was one which lingered, it had a lingering effect in Utah.
