Introduction

This chapter discusses the HIV outbreak in Austin, Indiana in 2015 and how it was linked to the misuse of the prescription painkiller Opanna. It explores the struggles faced by the town, including high unemployment and low income levels, and includes an interview with a resident who is addicted to Opanna and has been diagnosed with HIV.
