The Practice of Friendship
I think if I'd been taught that a lot of things would have been different. It began as a young kid in Texas who said, okay, there's no room for me in traditional families. No one will love someone like me. So I learned how to make friends to keep me safe and to build a network and community and family. My entire identity is being remade and reforged in their love continually. And it just irritates me that on Wikipedia pages and when we die, people will say, our partner was survived by and I say, list all my friends there too.
