Isaiah 53: Substitutionary, Punitive, Suffering

The word for means on account of. And this meaning is made clear by other New Testament expressions like Romans 4 and verse 25, where it says Jesus was delivered up for our trespasses. So we can see that in light of Isaiah 53, to say that Christ died for our sins, takes on a deep meaning of substitutionary, punitive suffering.
