Human effort is not well calebrated against risk in that a perception of risk, and hence fear, is driven by imaginability, not by data. We misallicate vast amounts of resources to avoiding terrorism, which kills on average, about six americans a year. And even risks that are, ah, not here, but are plausible enough to worry about, like pandemics receive far too little attention.
