Why Do We Need a Badge and a Gun?

Philip Klein: Why are we bringing a badge and a gun to a place where some one's thinking about ending their own life? He sites case where officers were called to a home where a man was pointing a gun at his own head, and the police said, that's a danger to us and shot and killed him. But i wish it were the case that if you don't introduce a gun, the chance of getting shot wers. Unfortunately, we've got so many guns in this country that that's not the case.
