The Autobiographical Aspect of Death in Venice
In a lot of man's work, there's a very strong autobiographical aspect. How strong is that in death in Venice? Well, a short answer would be it's very strong. It's possibly as most, arguably as most exposing personal work, I'd say. The boy is... there's no sentence. He's mute. But he doesn't speak a word in the novella. They don't speak to each other and we're left to wonder what he's thinking. We're not given any indication of thinking anything at all.
