How Do You View Slavery?

Karen: I wonder for the people at the time in the Civil War, how they viewed slavery. Was it just something which was part and parcel of daily life or was there some sort of inner conflict about the morality of it? Karen: My book demonstrates a sort of generational difference because of the facts of the Booth family. The grandfather opposed it with such vehemons that he participated in helping the enslaved escape to Philadelphia. And the next generation opposed it, but without real action.
