"It's incredibly disturbing the level of personal information that the government is apparently not just collecting through its own intelligence surveillance means, but actually buying and purchasing for the intent of using it against Americans," she says. "The idea that you're supposed to be living this perfect life behind closed doors so that it's no big deal if the government comes to look at your communications is just inconsistent with the idea of living in a free democracy."
