The History of Pithakusai

Pithakusai has the reputation of being the earliest Greek colonial foundation in the Central Mediterranean. When Kusada and her new husband arrived there around 730 BC, most of the site's residents weren't Greek at all. The couple spoke Phoenician but also picked up a bit of the local italic dialect. They made sacrifices to Melkart, the patron god of their grandfather's tire,. as well as Apollo and Zeus as the situation demanded.
