Taiwan's Media Environment Is Marked by Political Polarization and the Pursuit of Profit

Reporters Without Borders released its annual World Press Freedom Index this week. Taiwan moved up three spots to send it 35th at a 180 countries and territories evaluated. But Reporters Without Borders says the ranking does not represent improvement in Taiwan's media environment over the past year. Head Cedric Alvani said journalists in Taiwan have been pressured by their companies to produce sensationalistic news stories.
