The Role of the Manager

I think that when I was always very clear with the people I had led and served, that my job was to support them so that they didn't need me in the same role. Not every manager wants that. Some managers are really happy as a first level dev manager or a first level test manager. They don't want to move quote up. However, if they create an environment where other people can, I'm going to say this word, surpass them then they have done their best job.
