Thucydides' the Athens of Milos
The cities of Argos and Tigeia were reincorporated back into the Peloponnesian alliance. If Athens was to succeed in an offensive against the Spartans, they had to harness their powers over the sea. Their next target, therefore, was Milos. Unlike most of the other islands, they'd refuse to join the Delian League. Thucydides records the circumstances of the Athenian forces coming to Milo's territory. He then describes a remarkable conference that was held between the Athenian envoys and the Milian leadership.
