In Conjectures and Refutations about science, Karl Popper sets the scene by going to the heart of matters. He names them and explains their positions with lots of references but less than there for any other philosophers. And I think with new eyes, here he is solving actual problems in philosophy and epistemology right before your eyes. But it's just a preface to a much more substantial philosophy about how knowledge is generated.
