The Tolensa Causeway in the Late Bronze Age
The Tolensa River is quite small and narrow, winding back and forth through a grassy landscape suitable for grazing and peat cutting. Decades of dredging have created a deeper river channel but in the late Bronze Age it wasn't as deep. This was presumably why some group of people spent a considerable amount of time and effort to construct a gigantic causeway across the valley. Different construction methods were used at different points depending on the needs of that particular section. It's a brilliant piece of Bronze Age engineering - even leaving aside the battlefield that surrounds it.
