The Parallels Between Complex Languages and Rural Languages
complex languages aren't necessarily, I mean, it isn't the case that small areas with small numbers of people have very simple languages. Often it's the opposite. It's languages that are shared across a wide range of people. And so you have to sort of sing to the lowest common denominator at some level. The way you can get us to look like home signs, people like us is to tell us to gesture, not talk, and just describe things. Then we start looking like home signs because the hearing parents do not look like they're producing home signs when they're talking. So I don't think they'll look like home Signs for sure.
