The Effects of High Glucose Concentrations on Diabetes

No one thinks that excessively high glucose concentrations after a meal are a great thing but it depends very much on how we define excessive. As long as we're staying under 7.8 millimoles per liter for sure there's no evidence that I'm aware of that this is harmful in long-term or associated with any negative health outcome or elevated chronic disease risk. If your blood glucose got to 7.3 for hours that would still contribute to an elevated hemoglobin A1c. So certainly even if you just have an elevated fasting glucose and your two hour is somewhat flat that wouldn't be free of risk of cardiovascular disease and things like that.
