How to Be Better at Estimating

We can get better at estimating by incorporating an outside view, planning for the worst case scenario and breaking down the work into smaller pieces. If we break a project or initiative into a small chunk, we can get much more accurate estimates than trying to estimate the whole thing. That doesn't mean we're immune to making bad estimates or exempt from executives who want to know when the whole thing will be done. But it does allow us to get more specific about the parts of a product which will then give you some breathing room in your estimating.
