The Danger of Government Intervention and Speech

Americans have been having an argument that we've been having for a long time in this country, right? I mean, this is not a new thing going back to the Alien and Sedition Acts. There's always been this tension between the idea that the government exercising its ability to decide what is and is not appropriate speech. And so all of this legal history would have been uncontroversial among American liberals anyway.
