The Purpose of Social Science
If it's a serious boring chore, you'll stick to it while you're in serious boring mode for the first three weeks of the year. If you've got a friend that you like going running with or if you enjoy the foods on your diet rather than have to hold your nose and swallow them down, you're way more likely to stick to your motivations. And correcting that mistake, even if people don't realize it's a correction, it's just like re-emphasizing something that they knew all along can be extraordinarily valuable.
