There's a parallel here with Where I End Sophie, which is also a novel that explores the tension between an element of kind of outsider identity and insider identity. Your protagonist is split in some quite fundamental and interesting ways while she lives her life on this Irish island,. But it's less supernatural than Claire's book, isn't it? Well, I wanted actually the sort of, I guess, supernatural element to feel ambiguous for the reader.
