Diane Ravitch: "When you really get to work with schools and districts and politicians and families who really care about their kids and their schools, the work is a lot of fun" She says that some people don't even understand how some of these work. Ravitch: In san francisco for example, we live in seven hills. We live in earthquake country. The state wasn't going to help us with that. But when our school district is getting the same amount of funds that, say, stockton, or some other places, which have much lower cost of living, we need actually inject additional local money to retain good teachers. It's mission a line. It's satisfying
