In 1982, Eleanor Ox told us that children in Samoa learn in a very, very different way because their society is structured incredibly differently. So the studies that exist are like this. That tells us something about what exists. In Samoan, adults don't speak to children much at all. And there is the possibility that the input they get from other children is similarly simplified compared to adult language. Maybe when parents speak a certain way to their children, they're actually sort of imitating how teenagers speak to their younger siblings.
