In 17 o seven, the english parliament passed an act of union. It merged england and scotland together into one united kingdom. And what this did is it merged the militaries into one force. This opened up opportunities for scottish politicians,. lawyers, government officials, soldiers, military officers to get into positions in the british colonies.
