The Gravitational Lensing Effect
Two 1919 expeditions to two different places both organized by Eddington but they did actually allow for the possibility that somebody might be too overwhelmed to take decent photos. There's been a certain amount of controversy ever since as to whether the experimental errors on those measurements really justified Eddington's claim he was a great supporter of relativity and really seriously wanted it to be right. nowadays when you look out into the wider galaxy and and other more distant galaxies this so-called gravitational lensing phenomenon is really very very clear.
