The Importance of Tone in Speaking English
People who don't use pitch a lot in their first language may not be aware of it. If your intonation has a less varied pitch, you might be saying it like this: Hi, can I get a cup of coffee? For native English speakers, when they hear this tone, it sounds aggressive because this is a tone that is associated with an angry tone or with an impatient tone. The more excited you are or the friendlier you are, again, these are social codes, right?
