Microfinance is unsecured lending to some of the poorest people in the community. The trend has escalated at a time of severe crisis in Sri Lanka. GDP has shrunk by a fifth and it's said that hundreds of thousands of householders, like these women, have found themselves mired in debt they can't repay.
