The Growth Bug in History
After 1870, there was the potential for technology advancing fast enough that humanity might be able to bake a sufficiently large economic pie for everyone to have enough. That thing that happened around 1870 was a total sea change and it means that history afterwards is a completely different animal in its essentials from history before. In terms of its ability to boost human productivity and livelihoods, there's been as much technological growth and progress since 1870 as there was since minus 6,000 in 1870. And having enough doesn't depend on your being in an elite that was successfully running a force and fraud domination game against the rest of society.
