If you hit an asteroid and it smashes into loades of pieces, that's notssarely a bad result. It just kind of suggests that maybe if you need to deflect an asteroid for real, you just deflect it. Lik, it sounds like in the next few decades, potentially we can solve this problem for the rest of humanity - which apisy will go on for a while.
Scientists are constantly searching for asteroids that could crash into Earth. But if they find one, will they be able to do anything about it? NASA has launched a spaceship that will slam into an asteroid to find out.
