The Hunt for Red October

In the late 80s, producer Mace Newfeld pitched a movie called The Hunt for Red October. Paramount Pictures liked the story, but told Newfeld they'd only make his film if his script was approved by the military. According to a 2022 documentary: Theaters of War, the Pentagon agreed to help Newfeld. Eventually, it expanded into an entire franchise built around the protagonist Jack Ryan.
