The Roots of Secular Humanism
The roots of enlightenment rationalism and anti-religious secular humanism were found in things like canon law. The idea wasn't as predominant philosophy in the 17th and 18th centuries when western european powers including Protestant ones ran slave trades. Protestants sects just proliferated wildly until you reach this kind of astonishing system where there's hundreds of churches, says David Frum.
