C is a very small language, which means in c s 50, over the course of just six or seven weeks, we can introduce students to almost every feature of it. C is about as close as you can get to machine code or assembly language without actually dipping below that brake. There really are terribly many abstractions available to you beyond the functions and data types themselves in the language. But at that point, the students do not have such a low level appreciation of what's going on underneath the hood.
