The Evidence Doesn't Play Along With Traditional Archaeology
In a lot of comparative archaeology, it's often assumed that to get the good things that come along with civilization, you have to put up with bad things. And this is a pretty fundamental assumption built into theory of social change. But in the indis, it's clear, kind of rihte from the outset, that the evidence doesn't play along with the rules of traditional archaeological theory. It's famous for lots and lots of evidence of the good things, but without the sort of really clear indications of the bad things.
