When a Violin Becomes a Fiddle?

I started when I was three with the Suzuki method playing by ear. Love music, absolutely love all kinds of music and I do love singing in the shower. When does a violin become a fiddle? Is it similar to when a vase becomes a vase? What's the determining characteristic? Please look it up. Hurry up Chuck.
