Heparin Infusion: How to Prevent Bleeding

The target HEPA assay is between 0.1 to 0.3 with a first check four hours after the infusion begins. We'd recommend checking levels at least once daily or any time there are concerns about bleeding or thrombus progression. After 24 hours of preventative anticoagulation, we would conduct a repeat head CT to ensure no worsening of the intracranial hemorrhage. Sometimes Rahul in a very high risk kits, we actually skip the heparin bolus and just start the infusion at a lower rate to prevent bleeding.
