The Role of Gender in Languages

Cross-linguistically English for sure has a lot. I think in the six years that I spoke with Filipino, I've only had one time where I was listening to a story and I was confused about the gender. It makes for some... It's fun to sort of get a wider scope. Swahili has, for example, like 15 noun classes. Romance languages have animate or sorry, they have male masculine feminine and sometimes neuter like Romanian. There's a famous book on noun classes in an Australian language called Fire Women and Other Dangerous Things. And it incorporates women, fire and other dangerous things. That's great. Speakers to find up the world in various ways.
