I was both riveted by and deeply saddened by what happened to her great grandfather. Done i couldn't believe that his story had gone untold, even within the family. We wound up getting more than 14 thousand records in order to piece together what happened to the family. And one of the most astonishing, revolutory things we discovered was that june sykes had fought in world war too,. He had gone with the 90 second infant re, an all black division. The first of the combat regiments to land in italy was his. He survived three major battles. Returned to gim crow america having fought nopses and facists abroad.
