Family Dynamics and Washington Dreams

In this podventure, we discuss the episode “The Vow,” in which Jessie sets Donna down the path of anxiety over her parents’ relationship after they take the ‘first step’ towards divorce. When Donna walks in on her parents arguing, she and Jimmy decide to join forces in convincing their parents to sign a contract stating that they will never separate while Donna is in D.C. with her dad and Jimmy is at home with his mom. But what they don’t know is that, in a way, her parents already have signed a contract. A contract before God. Also, romantically charged arguments, leaning on the fourth wall, and correlation does not equal causation.
