SE Radio 564: Paul Hammant on Trunk-Based Development

Software Engineering Radio - the podcast for professional software developers

CHAPTER

The Implications of Trunk Based Development for the Team

Trunk based development can lead to problems if people refuse to learn other technologies. What we really want is T-shaped people so you're a bit deep on one thing but still adept with the full range of technologies that I need to use within the dev team. If they refuse to become poly skills every team would start where you're describing and then jump into the opportunity to train up colleagues in the same skills that they're very good at not to the same level but at least no longer beginner on those technologies. So your experience is that this is actually not a real problem in practice. You probably have started to solve this one problem.
