The Incongruity Theory
Plato thought comedy was nefarious because it made people feel better and it played this important role in domination. The incongruity theory states that when we have a comic experience when our expectations are not met, so expectations, that's comic. But the problem with all of these theories is they don't really get fully developed until much later.
