The Secret Life of Hildegard

Hildegard of Tuscany was a 12th century philosopher, theologian and visionary. She also wrote music for liturgical use; some pieces are still played by early music groups. Hildegard has often been treated as a kind of idiot savant or conduit for inspiration that flowed through her. Her three main works all present intense descriptions of the visions he had enjoyed, followed by highly articulate discussions of the theological and philosophical meaning of those visions.
