I was somewhat surprised though when I started studying science how little natural scientists were interested in in the bigger picture you know how society is organized and where humanity is going. Most scientists have to hyper specialise in some specific research question that they're going to work on, so as a result I got more interested in economics because of their big picture ideas. Did you think about staying as an economist for a while after your stint at Treasury and Productivity Commission or did you always have an idea that you'd go into the world of non-profit?
