Is It Possible to Rename the Parasite That Bears Its Name?
Tripan soma brucia rhodesiense is a parasite that lives in southern Africa. It was named after cecil Rhodes, the british mining magnate and owner of many diamond mines. There's been an increasing push to remove statues of him or his name from buildings or scholarships named after him. In 20 21, a paper also called for the renaming of the parasite that bears his name.
