The History of Chickens

Today's chickens were first domesticated from red jungle fowl or gallis gallis, which is a tropical bird native to Southeast Asia. Chickens were also carried from the Indian subcontinent to islands in the Pacific and from there to the Americas. Over the course of the 19th century, people in Europe and North America started developing new breeds of domestic chicken.
