The story is actually, as a matter of fact, more complicated than it's generally presented as being in the mainstream media. The people in the United States tried to do the very same thing that people in Kiev did and what they likely hoped for were two outcomes. It was not about becoming a separatist country or joining Russia in the beginning. But when it became clear that that would not happen, the people started hoping for the Crimean scenario.
