The Battle of the Ejiangshan Islands
The Battle of the Ejiangshan Islands lasted from January 18 to 20 1955. The ROC had used this base off the coast of Jijiang to harass and carry out a number of attacks that they weren't going to bring down the PRC but who needed that kind of thing. In order to rescue all 29,000 or so ROC forces and civilians from the Dachon Islands, the US Navy had to be called in. On February 5th, 1955, 132 vessels and 400 aircraft took part in this mission to rescue and transport all the troops and heavy equipment off the islands. And from there, they sailed south to Taiwan.
