The Importance of Knowing Your Kids Friends

In college prep, I know this is still very much a thing, especially in the Midwest suburbs. You know all your kids friends to make sure that they are hanging out with the right people who have the right connections to the right school. Is right people and wrong people? Yes. Sometimes it's just really a feel like you're like, oh, like when I picked you up, um, you know, Diane was hanging out with a lot of kids wearing black and I didn't feel good about that. They had it so different. It's one of part of the crisis of empathy that we have in this country - our incuriosity about why somebody has suffered differently than we have.
